Good practices to enhance the scientific research on Non-Indigenous Species with the support of the CNR project “USEit”

A new study has been published in NeoBiota, resulting from the collaboration of a large and diverse group of experts of biological invasions working across terrestrial, freshwater and marine ecosystems. The paper identifies six good practices, summarised by the acronym TRACKS, to strengthen research on Non-Indigenous Species (NIS):
i) Tracking NIS in biodiversity data collection;
ii) Reference protocols for NIS data collection;
iii) Active participation of relevant stakeholders;
iv) Collaboration and application of FAIR principles in data management;
v) Knowledge hub for NIS data;
vi) Strategic communication.
The TRACKS good practices aim to enhance research on NIS, improve data collection, management, and sharing, and engage all stakeholders for more targeted and shared management actions.
The initiative was carried out with the support of the project “Use of operational synergies for the study and integrated management of invasive alien species in Italy” funded by the National Research Council of Italy.
